StockholmOldTown is designed in responsive design to be able to adopt to most screen sizes, from small smartphone screens to large 4K+ sizes. I mean that images and text adopts in size and layout depending on your screen size.
All links are designed to minimize the disturbance to make reading headlines, paragraphs etc. as smooth as possible. This however is not helping visually impaired visitors and therefor the links has been made into a very distinct design with high contrast at mouse over (test here). All pages are designed for good performance even when zoomed into by the Web Browser.
StockholmOldTown meets the conditions of the W3C WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0) or better. It means that the Web Site should be readable for most visitors, even those with impaired vison and are using a screen reader. We would like all our visitors to feel welcome to our Web Site.
We have designed the Web Site articles with dark grey/black fonts on a light/white background for maximum contrast. There are other parts of the Web Site with less contrast but then the content is also of less importance. At the Web Site we are with a few exceptions never using text on images, this will not work well when zoomed. All images also have an Alt tag for information of the image and in cases there is also a subline.
We are using the font Arial for headlines and Georgia for the paragraphs. The size of the headline varies from 46-16 pixels depending on your screen size. For the paragraphs the font size varies from 24-16 pixels. To make a new paragraph more clear we always increase the size of the first character and makes it bold.
Furthermore, we are also using a variable number of columns, from 3 to 1 depending on your screen size to enhance the readability.
All pages of the Web Site is tested and validated according to W3C HTML5 and W3C CSS3. It should insure the correct rendering of the content at most devices and screen sizes.
We use some software to maximaize the Web Site readability and ease of use for you. These are all tested on the most common types of Web Browsers. We have used the following throughout the Web Site.
Server software is PHP version 5+ and the database is MySQL but we use PDO for access, handling and flexibility.
Javscript and CSS3 based software Bootstrap is used for expanding parts of a page and popup windows.
Ajax is used for some solutions were we need to have instant display of an action. We often use it in combination with Bootstrap.
Google maps are used at many pages in combination with database values.
