The Medieval museum in the Old Town of Stockholm

The Medieval museum is located at the east part of the island Helgeandsholmen (see the map below). The Museum has exhibitions about the old Stockholm and the people who lived there. The exhibition area is approx. 1 750 square meters ( 18 800 square foot) and with more than 1 000 objects to see.

The Medieval museum was opened in 1986 after a large excavation of the island Helgeandsholmen during the renovation/rebuilt of the Parliament. The museum is actually built surrounding some of the major findings like the outer City Wall and an old cemetery. The museum also contains several authentic building from the medieval period which lets you see the medieval world of Stockholm and the people who lived there.

The Medieval museum got the award in 1998 as the European Museum of the Year and is must to visit for everyone interested in history.
