Info about the Royal Castle archive in the Old Town
The Royal Castle Archive is a part of the Swedish National Archive and is located in the basement of the Northwest wing of the Royal Castle. This part of the wing was built with the purpose to host the archive. You can see the location of the archive on the Cutaway drawing below and the map further below.
To visit the Royal Castle Archive you have to go to the Royal Castle West Gate. The top part of the archive is normal office rooms while the real storage is in the Royal Castle basement.

The Royal Castle Archive is used for storage of the Royal Court and the Royal Castle's documents. It open in 1893 to store the Royal Castle building history and documents but has since expanded its functions.
The Royal archives from before 1800 are not stored in the Royal Castle Archive but in the Swedish National Archive at other locations. The Royal family's private documents etc. are not stored in the Royal Castle Archive but in the Royal Archive at Ulriksdals Castle. This Archive is accessible through the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Castle.
